The Challenge
The Foundation for Delaware County was created in 2016, with proceeds from the sale of a nonprofit medical system. As a brand-new organization, it required complete nonprofit communications services. In particular, the foundation needed to convey its deep roots in Delaware County and its continuity with ongoing programs. However, it was also vital to distinguish its mission and goals from the hospital foundations that preceded it.
To begin with, the foundation contacted Twistnshout primarily for design services. Then, Twistnshout brought in Public Voice NY and other members of its team to provide additional expertise. With Twistnshout as the lead, one of the first major tasks was to overhaul the foundation’s initial website.
What we did
First, Public Voice NY assessed the structure of the foundation and the functions the staff wanted the website to fulfill. After that, we provided the information architecture and collected and managed the content for their site. As the site was being built, we collaborated closely with our developer Ben. We wanted to ensure that the custom code and plug-ins accommodated the functionality the staff wanted and the approved design.
In addition, we conducted an audience survey and collaborated with the team on focus group research and a communications audit. This research yielded a full communications plan.
Later, when the foundation changed its name and increased its functions, we expanded the information architecture and keyword strategy. Plus, we assisted them in updating their social media accounts. Last but not least, we trained the staff to be able to maintain the site and add new content.
The Results
As a team, we provided comprehensive nonprofit communications services for the foundation. Now, their website and social media serve a complex set of stakeholders – including donors, advisers, grantees, nonprofit professionals, and program clients. More importantly, the community is coming to see The Foundation for Delaware County as the go-to resource to address critical needs and improve the health and futures of people in their area.
